What Breed Of Guppy….?
What breed of guppy should I get. I have an orange/black/white snakeskin and a blond mosquito guppy. I have 3 fry. One is just getting it’s color. Orange and black.
I want to know which breed, or color pattern, I should get to spice up the tank. The colors are so plain. Blacks and browns and warm colors. I want some cool colors. Like purple or a light emerald or blue. I love the color scarlet. Is it possible to get an absolutely beautiful breed at a pet-store? I don’t like online shipments.
I had 2 Galaxy Blues. They died. They were deformed too. I felt bad so I took them. I love snake skins.
So anyway which pattern of guppy, or breed, would best suit my preferences of the color blue, purple, emerald, or white. It has to be gorgeous.
Most pet stores sell pet quality guppies, rather than really ornamental or show quality guppies. If you don’t want to order online, your best bet is to check in your area for the next guppy show or aquarium exhibition. Breeders often sell fish there, and it’s easy to tell the quality at a glance (especially if they have won something).
It sounds like what you want is a full red guppy if you want scarlet. These guys are absolutely gorgeous, especially if you like red (like me).
For me, purple guppies can only ever be Moscow purples. The males are gorgeous but I love the way the females’ fins color in but are still mostly transparent.
I will point out that if you let different strains of guppy interbreed, they will often lose some of their most beautiful traits in a generation or two. I understand that breeding purebreds is not your goal, but it may be something to keep in mind.
